I’m not sure who to speak with about this but it would be great to get some IDPA going on out there.

Driving to Okeechobee was a real trek and I don’t even think they’re doing it anymore. Shooting IDPA was the best handgun practice I could imagine and would love to be able to do it locally.

Agreed! I really think once the range opens it is going to become everything we have all hoped for and then some. Seems like despite the delays, the details coming out show they’re on the right track.

I feel the same! I’ve never cared about becoming a member of a gun range before but I’d sign up to this one in an instant.

I hoping it’s everything we want *fingers crossed*

Any possibility of there being an “annual membership” for rifle/pistol, as opposed to paying each time we go?

From my understanding… FWC and Palm Beach County are not going to be competing with other local ranges with IDPA, USPSA, etc type shooting events but they are looking into the future of hosting competitive trap and skeet events.

Was that an official response? Have we heard any updates? I would also be more than interested in IDPA/USPSA/IPSC

Don’t kid yourself, the FWC nor Palm Beach County care one bit about how what they do affects any other business or ranges. They likely do not hold the matches because they are a lot of work and the facility was not built for competitions. Keep in mind their pitch to the county to get the land for free was largely based on holding competitions. People should hold the county and FWC accountable for this stated goal and demand that they hold these competitions. Time to start flooding their social media with demands for them to make good on their stated goal. Don’t allow them to obfuscate their responsibility by just holding some clay shooting competitions.

I just learned of this range and registered as a user specifically hoping for IDPA style competitions. I haven’t been to Okeechobee for years as it’s too far to consistently get there with my schedule. I would love to get it going here.

FWC has no plans to hold any shooting competitions other than clay shooting. They claimed they were building this range for competitive shooting sports but apparently not very many. People should go to the press and government officials and demand that they include all the shooting sports and make good on their stated goal.

I have been involved and worked on getting a public shooting range in Palm Beach County since the County passed the ordnance of no shooting east of 20 mile bend. There was never any conversation about holding competition shooting except for the trap and skeet being built to Olympic specifications and it was then that the Palm Beach Sports Commission talked about it not the FWC. A public shooting range was first mentioned to the Board of County Commissioners in the mid 1970’s.

I think you might want to read the proposal the FWC submitted to Palm Beach County when the asked for the donation of the 150 acres.

When the county passed an ordnance of no discharging of firearms east of 20 mile bend… we had no where in Palm Beach County to target practice or sight in a new firearm. We worked for many years to just trying to get the basic’s of a legal place to go to, the County screwed us over big time with all their false hope and smoke & mirrors. There was suspose to have been a public range next to the sheriffs range at 20 mile bend… plans and everything drawn up… they built the sheriffs range and stole the fill needed for the berms at the sheriffs range from where the public range was to be built, then the price to bring fill in for the public range was to high and killed it. Then the county said you can use the sheriffs range at limited times, limited type of firearms and limited ammunition which was bullshit! Too restrictive! Believe me this has been a LONG HARD fight to just get what we got!
