Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people actually ask before a visit to Palm Beach Shooting Sports Park.
What are the hours?
Monday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The complex is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday, and on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
How much does it cost to shoot?
A $15 daily pass covers the 100-yard rifle range and both handgun ranges. The 200- and 300-yard rifle lines are $24.95 an hour. Trap and skeet are $10 per 25-target round, 5-stand is $11.25, and a 100-target round of sporting clays is $45.
Do I need a reservation?
Not for regular shooting. Reservations are needed for trapper service and Learn to Shoot sessions; call 561-822-6823. When the rifle or handgun lines are full, shooters rotate every hour.
How do I qualify for the 200- and 300-yard ranges?
Show an NRA rifle classification card (Marksman through High Master), or fire 5 shots at 100 yards and keep all of them inside the scoring rings of a standard NRA target.
What calibers are allowed?
Rifles up to .338 Lapua Magnum on all three rifle ranges (muzzleloaders and rimfire too on the 100-yard range), and all handgun calibers on the handgun ranges. Rifle-caliber handguns shoot from positions 41 and 42 of the 25/50-meter range.
Can I use any target?
Targets need range master approval. Targets with human features and zombie targets aren't allowed, though training silhouettes are on the handgun ranges. Hang paper targets with tape, not staples or thumbtacks.
Can I rent a gun?
Shotguns, yes: $20 for the day, for any clay discipline. The range doesn't list rifle or handgun rentals, so bring your own for those ranges.
Do they sell ammunition?
Yes, in limited supply: common rifle calibers (.223, .308 and .30-06) and common handgun calibers, plus targets, eye and ear protection, rifle rests and spotting scopes.
What is the Clay Card?
A prepaid card used for every clay round. It costs $5 once, and loading $50 adds a 5% bonus while loading $100 adds 10%.
I've never shot clays. Where do I start?
Book a Learn to Shoot session for trap, skeet, International trap or sporting clays. It's $25 with instruction, equipment and an abbreviated round. Call 561-822-6823 to reserve.
Can kids shoot here?
FWC doesn't post its age rules online, so call 561-512-0285 before bringing young shooters. FWC's hunter safety course is for ages 12 and up.
Is the range accessible?
Yes. FWC provides wheelchair accessibility and accommodations at every range, including accessible positions on the covered firing lines.
Who runs the range?
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which built it with Palm Beach County. It opened in stages starting May 18, 2020, with support from the Wildlife Restoration program, the National Rifle Association and the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida.
Where else can I shoot nearby?
The closest public alternatives are the Markham Park Target Range in Sunrise to the south and Okeechobee Shooting Sports to the north.
